1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we test the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends clearing areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning the area where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum cleaner top 10 vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot via the app or by voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot broom to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and move around the room and sweep the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an automobile. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can move it around like a magic device.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpets to trap large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task being performed. It is able to swiftly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its short run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a common battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before making it back to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways because it has fewer components that need regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, because it has a better battery life, can change its suction power mode on its own and has physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has a cutting-edge onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. However, it did not do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks, which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tried which could be a deal-breaker for certain shoppers.
