UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will wear down and will require replacement. When doing this it is essential that the new handles match the exact dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently to the lever type handles on doors. These handles are operated by one spindle, or two spindles, inline or offset. When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.

Once you have the proper PZ size you will then need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. They are typically round or square, with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when they are not being used, instead of hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a home. Also, the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are swivel, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body, allow them to rotate an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with both internal and external door handles euro lock doors generally needing different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is crucial; it depends on the way your doors and handle are utilized. For example, external doors should be fitted with an extra secure cylinder, while internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security even more, like anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can remove it. It is important to not have a cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This will help deflect the attack, and ensure your door is secure.

There are cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent type of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits in the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. In the past, a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them and without this they can droop or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple part is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in the closed or open position, as they aren't easy to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit handles that are not sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into the backplate to allow them to fit.
