WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using an The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade item route costs 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an item level upgrade upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character that will be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
