Three Wheeled Buggies

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with a newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it very durable. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasionally pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. You want the seat to be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which allows the child to face you, while others only allow a parent-facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or walking in muddy areas. The buggy can be used as a one-person unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4, and comes with a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a large padded seat. The storage options are good as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood, and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with swivel wheels at the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This also helps if you bump into an unintentional tree root or kerb as the front wheel will rise up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is an issue when you're using it for a jogger or you need to maneuver through narrow doorways when out and out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which let you remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to maneuver
