Albums

Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music as well as collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.

Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs album from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 in the wake of the collaboration.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier albums, and was criticised for the absence of hit singles. In 1985, the group's lead singer Fergie Fredericksen quit, and the band held auditions to choose a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their album Fahrenheit in 1986.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several old tapes and demos to release a special album called Toto XX. The album was a hit by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included recordings from the tour and also an interview with the group.
