Our test subject Claire was impressed by the neat packaging, easy-to-open and deemed it to be one of the fastest and easiest pieces of baby gear to put together. She took it out to explore some rough terrain and was thrilled with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. However, some can be converted to accept a second seat with adapters. You'll also see that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who wish to walk but still need some help.

Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for city streets. It's a breeze to move and comes with a deep basket that has plenty of storage space. It can hold twins from birth and will accept two car seats or seats and a carrycot. The seats must face towards the front and there is no space to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will require an extra sidepack.

If you like to travel off-road then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a excellent option. It's a side-byside model with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to fit through narrow doors and on public transport, and allows you to climb up and down kerbs without much trouble. It also has a handbrake on the adjustable handlebar for extra security and safety.

The UPPAbaby Vista 2 double is a lightweight 3 wheel pushchair option that can be used by twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades, and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple by the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack' board for mobile older kids.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most sought-after double buggies available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's an all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make smooth work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate up to 30 seating configurations, and comes with a built-in ride-on board for older kids who prefer to walk, as well as a 'cinema' seating mode that raises the back of the seat to improve visibility.

Alternatively, the phil&teds dot is a fantastic single buggy from day 1 that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3!) in various configurations. This is especially useful for parents who have children in your car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie that allows for the best lie-flat position. Also, car seat adapters that fit many brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension on a triple buggy is vital to how it will be easy for you and your baby/s to push. A smooth ride is essential as babies can feel every bump on the road, especially if it's on rough terrain like grass or unpaved paths. Some models come with locking front tires that aid in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres that are ideal for all-terrain rides, but they are prone to punctures. Make sure you keep a spare set of tyres in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres that are designed to take the bumps and are less prone to punctures, however, you may find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back should you decide to run.

If you want to jog with your children, this is the best double buggies to jog with as it has a lockable swivel front wheel that helps you keep your balance when you're on off-road or hilly tracks. It also has a spacious undercarriage basket, an adjustable handlebar and soft suspension for comfortable riding.

It's a light compact model that folds with one hand. It's ideal for travel. It is compatible with many infant car seats and comes with a handy undercarriage basket to store items. It's not cheap however, it does have some distinctive features, like its one-click folding, as well as a variety of extras, like a bumper bar or raincover.
