UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and require replacement. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position the lever and key hole dimensions. Refer to the size guide for help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever or lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be used on new or replacement doors. This kind of door handle for double glazed window is available in a variety of designs and finishes. The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are suitable for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings, so they are easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be placed and angled to fit the needs of all users. The handle has been tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps ensure that the quality of finish and performance is maintained over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit a wider range of locks. This is especially useful for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever can also be used on doors that have a latch that can be activated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad bifold door handles handle made of upvc operates differently from lever-type handles that are found on the majority of doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are generally used on UPVC double glazed doors and come in many variations & finishes.

The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with a high performance and long-lasting durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles come with the spindle and screws which allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger size handle that can often be a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles hanging from their horizontal position when they are not being used.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is also known as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the right handles.

Once you have decided on the correct PZ size it is important to make sure that the push and lever pads are designed to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are usually round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads we offer are sprung. This means they return to a horizontal position when not in use instead of hanging, and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the property. Also, the majority of UPVC window handle repairs lever pad style handles are swivel that allows you to put them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They operate by using a key that unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body and permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with internal and external Door handles doors typically requiring different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is crucial. It is based on the use that your doors and handles receive. Doors that are external, for instance, should be fitted with cylinders with greater security, whereas doors inside can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, in the event that one is present. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however, if this is not possible, you may remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like lock snapping, so it is essential that it is not too long.

The majority of modern cylinders have been made with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can to deflect an attack and keep your door safe.

There are cylinders that are designed to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and easier to achieve than opening multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a burglary, which can hinder an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits within the base of your door handle's backplate, providing a spring solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their rest position after use. The handles had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple part is the best solution to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from getting stuck in either the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks sprung They will not work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you must have a custom hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes within the door handle backplate of many kinds of uPVC doors. They have a square cut-out that accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.
